Mooroopna experienced strong community engagement in 2024. It had strong playgroup participation in targeted and supported playgroup sessions. Parents surveyed at Mooroopna show very high levels of confidence with 84% stating that they are extremely or very confident to help their children to learn. Mooroopna’s onsite governance group remains robust with partners agreeing that the group has a clear vision, that partners trust and respect one another, and that members are given information that helps them make timely decisions.

  • New approaches: In 2024, School Nurse visits were conducted in Term 1 instead of Term 3. A concerted effort from Mooroopna Primary School and site partners has resulted in an increase in the return rate for the On Entry Health Surveys from 37% in 2023 to 67% in 2024. This has allowed health and wellbeing referrals and support services to be accesses earlier in the year.
  • Continuity of Learning: 43% of Mooroopna Primary School’s Foundation students are from the onsite early learning centre. The Foundation teachers have observed these children have been quicker to settle into school.
  • Identifying development needs: Mooroopna Primary school and the onsite early learning centre have pooled resources to enable better access to developmental assessments for children in preschool years. This has led to earlier referrals to specialists and connection to other activities in the community  to support development.
  • Improving access for families: A one-day onsite GP trial resulted in 8 families accessing the service, providing easy access for families and resulted in an improved attendance rate when compared to the GP’s clinic in Shepparton.
  • Warm referrals: Our Place organised for 28 people to access onsite hearing tests for adults via the Victorian Government’s hearing bus, which provided the opportunity for 13 of these people to be referred to other support services.
  • Supporting Home Environments: Early years partners will be collaborating to pilot new approaches to partnering with families to support language rich environments and sharing information about strategies that are working to support self-regulation and wellbeing.
  • Increasing access to health services: Mooroopna site partners will work with local health systems and providers to expand the successful trials of onsite provision of health services including GP, Women’s Health Nurse and Chronic Disease health checks, enabling greater opportunities for families to address health issues.
  • Collaborating for improved attendance: Partners will collaborate to share and analyse evidence that can inform new ways of responding to barriers to regular attendance in learning settings.
  • Opportunities for parents and carers: Pursue partnerships with appropriate providers to increase opportunities for parents and carers to explore learning and employment pathways with a focus on areas where there are projected skill shortages.
